Dumas’ semi-autobiographical novel caused quite a stir in mid-century Paris, and his doomed Lady of the Camellias has been a favorite of stage actresses such as Sarah Bernhardt and, later, of movie stars like Greta Garbo. Love and death swirl around the beautiful courtesan Violetta Valery, who sacrifices everything for love. Performed in Italian with projected English supertitles.
