A Note from the Performer:

We (the performers) are going to set up an exhibition of visual materials throughout the space and set aside an area or areas for performance. The idea is that the audience, which is able to roam or sit freely, can choose to focus on either the materials or the performance but not both.

The performance itself consists of work by student devisers (theater and dance majors), chamber music played by my musical partners and me, and music for solo cello—which altogether will amount to around two to three hours of performed art.

The exhibition and its materials all consist of things that were carried out or prepared in advance of the performance, such as transcripts of conversations, essays, stories, photos, paintings, found objects, and notes.

The theme of the exhibition is civilization—and, more saliently, "what is going on" and "what do we do about all this" (taking as a given that "we have to do something about all of this").
